How To: RecoverPoint DRAC Password Removal

Here's a quick one. We all know EMC's Recoverpoint Appliances are nothing more than Dell 1950's, of which I talked about here. DRAC or Dell Remote Access Card's are pretty standard on most PowerEdge's and ultimately provide out-of-band remote IP management, we all know this so I wont go much deeper. To enable configuration of the DRAC and ultimate usability you will have to disable the password feature that prevents any administrative changes to the utility. Here are the steps to do so...

  1. Power off RPA, to do so gracefully you will need to SSH to the RPA and login with the boxmgmt account
  2. Detach the RPA from cluster (which is required to shut it down) and shutdown. I would walk through the commands but the boxmgmt account is menu driven so the operations are pretty self explanatory.
  3. Once the RPA is shutdown, open the top cover and locate the PWRD_EN jumper set to the rear of memory modules represented below.

  1. 4. To disable the password move the PWRD_EN jumper to the rear two pins then power on the device as shown below.

5. Power on the RPA and select CTRL-E once the DRAC Utility initializes.

6. Configure the IP information specific to your network, save and exit.

7. Verify remotely you can connect to the IP address of what you set within Step 6.

8. When prompted for the username and password use the standard, username: root pw: calvin. Verify you can access the console of the device.

Caveat: Now I should mention that unless you go through the proper channels, meaning you get your local TC to submit an RPQ for DRAC enablement, you could be running in a non-supported configuration.
